Television could use more talented, intelligent, and sexily handsome actors like Gregory Harrison. Born May 31, 1950 in Avalon on Catalina, Island off the Southern California Coast. Growing up in what was, in many ways, a very sheltered and isolated island community... Gregory remains appreciative of his unique upbringing. His family goes back three generations on the rocky oasis (His father, Captian Ed Harrison, operated a glass-bottom boat service there), and Gregory, himself, did not venture off Catalina until the age of 18. In 1968, after high school graduation, Gregory went into the army and served 2 years as a medic in Germany. Once he 'landed' on the mainland, Gregory enrolled in acting school (he also pursued a career as a singer/songwriter) and after some struggling and sidewalk pounding, found himself cast in the lead role of 'Universal's Jim - The World's Greatest'. There was a lean period of little or no work until 'Fraternity Row' came along, a much-heralded 'small' film about college life in the early Sixties. The film enjoyed favorable reviews and moderate box-office $ucce$$. More and more script offers began coming his way when Gregory finally decided to try his luck in television. He got the starring lead in the space-age TV series 'Logan's Run' oppisite Heather Menzies (actor Robert Urich's wife). But even Gregory couldn't beat the ratings competition and a less than desirable time slot, so the series died a premature death. Harrison said, "The series was a total misery. I did the last 6 weeks with walking pneumonia!"

Ultimately, Gregory would receive his just rewards and find himself in some critically-acclaimed TV movies with actress and friend, Stephanie Zimbalist. The first was 'The Gathering' and the second was the epic mini-series, 'Centennial'. The movie was based on the novel by James Michener, Harrison played the riveting role of Levi Zendt. The movie made viewers see Gregory could act and that he could hold his own, even with some of Hollywoods greatest leading actors, like Richard Chamberlain, Robert Conrad, Andy Griffith, Richard Crenna, and Brian Keith. Harrison recalls, "Centennial was the best role I ever had." In 1979, Greg became a house-hold name when he was cast in the hit CBS series 'Trapper John M.D.' His role was 'Gonzo' Gates, a rather cocky young surgeon who proved to be the perfect foil to Dr. John T. Mclntyre (Pernell Roberts) - 'M*A*S*H's Trapper John character 28 years after Korea. The series became a huge hit with families, but the women viewers put the series on the map. Ladies loved Gregory's charm and matinee idol good looks. In 1980, Harrison and his friend, Franklin R. Levy formed 'The Catalina Production Group Ltd', the production company would produce some of Gregory's best movies and stage work... 1980 was a big year for Gregory, he married the love of his life, lovely actress Randi Oakes (who played Officer Bonnie Clark on "CHiP's") and his first production for 'Catalina Productions' was made called 'For Ladies Only', in the movie Gregory played a hunky nightclub dancer who stripped and strutted in briefs for screaming female fans. The movie was Gregory's biggest hit and perpetuated the 'hunk' image but also spawned a big-selling sexy-poster of Gregory in a bikini. Harrison's physical allure was a career asset but did not make him happy. "I didn't study acting for nine years to be a hunk", insists Harrison. While 'Trapper John' was still a huge hit, Gregory started getting interrested in directing and producing. Gregory directed 8 episodes of the the series... He then left the hit series half way through it's seventh year and final season, to concentrate on using his considerable acting skills (and not his rippling muscles) for TV movies, film, and stage. In 1983, Harrison starred on stage in his own production a revival of the World War II drama 'The Hasty Heart', he also filmed the production for Showtime, with beautiful actress Cheryl Ladd as the nurse who falls in love with Gregory (a proud Scotsman and terminally ill patient). The Production won critical acclaim, USA Today called it, "An absolutely first-rate production." Harrison gave a beautifully controlled and extremely touching performance, that won him the 'Drama Critics Award' as 'Best Actor' and Gregory's Production 'Catalina' won 'Best Production' for the play.

Gregory has always loved surfing and swimming so in 1984 Gregory became the spokesperson and member of the 'Surfrider Foundation', a non-profit environmental organization that works to protect the coast. "Surfing keeps my drive and my idealism alive," Gregory said. Harrison soon went on to star in other stage productions like 'Picnic', which he won a 'Dramalogue Award'. Throughout the 80's and 90's Gregory starred in some top-rated movies and mini-series such as: 'The Woman's Room', 'The Fighter', 'Seduced', 'Fresno', 'Bare Essentials', 'Angel of Death', and 'Lies of the Heart' to name a few... Gregory also won acclaim for the movie 'A Christmas Romance', the movie has become a Christmas favorite and is seen every year. Harrison was honored in 1990, with an L.A. Ovation Award for his contribution to the Theater. In 1992, Greg starred once again opposite Stephanie Zimbalist in the critically acclaimed and emotionally charged movie, 'Breaking the Silence'. The movie was about 'sexual abuse' and it helped thousands of viewers who were dealing with that same issue in their own lives... The movie was one of the highest rated movies of that year. In 1997 Harrison returned to the stage this time he went to Broadway, in the musical 'Steel Pier', the performance won him another nomination for 'Best Actor'. 1999, Greg was busy in yet another stage play, 'Guys and Dolls' and starred in the TBS original movie 'First Daughter'. The cable movie was the highest rated cable movie ever.

In Gregory's personal life he battled cocaine addiction and faced many other problems, but he has emerged victorious with his wife, Randi at his side. The two are happier than ever and have four children. Harrison continues to stay busy, he recently starred in a new TV series for the WB Network called, 'Safe Harbor' and made guest appearances in some top rated shows like: 'Touched By an Angel' and 'Judging Amy'. At the end of 2000, Gregory was a semi-regular on the hit TV series 'Ed', starred in the TNT movie 'First Target', while continuing his successful broadway and stage work. Harrison is one actor that has never been out of work... Infact, his sex-appeal is still casting him as a "lover boy", and his guest appearance on 'Judging Amy' was so hot - that Gregory was signed as a regular for the 2001 season. So, what if NBC wants him back for Ed and CBS wants more episodes for Judging Amy? "That's the best problem an actor can have," He says. "Not only would I be choosing between two gorgeous, intelligent women, but two classy shows." In 2001 Gregory starred on Broadway in the musical show "Follies" which ended that year. Since 2003 Gregory has been playing the role of Billy Flynn in the touring production of "CHICAGO" in which he originally started on Broadway.
